Betty Hodges McFarland Endowed Scholarship for English Education

To provide support to a full-time student who is majoring in secondary education, intends to teach English at the middle or high school level, and is both a resident of Watauga County and a graduate of Watauga High School (or any other future high school located in Watauga County). If no applicants are residents of Watauga County and a graduate of Watauga High School (or any other future high school located in Watauga County), preference shall accrue to applicants from Ashe, Avery, Caldwell, and Alleghany counties that have graduated from high schools located in those counties. If no applicants meet these geographical preferences, priority will be given to any student who is a resident of North Carolina. Whenever possible, preference is to be given to students with financial need.
