The Dr. Phyllis Horne Crain Memorial Endowed Scholarship

It is the Donors’ preference that proceeds from this endowment shall be directed to the following purpose at Appalachian State University and under the terms hereinafter stated: To provide support to undergraduate students who have been admitted for enrollment or are currently enrolled full-time, are in good academic standing, and have and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The scholarship recipient (or recipients at the discretion of the Walker College of Business) each academic year will be a student(s) at the sophomore or higher class level possessing high ethical character and strong potential for serving in a leadership capacity, as determined by the Walker College of Business, and having a demonstrated financial need initially and when renewal is considered, demonstrated significant on-campus extracurricular and off-campus community service.

First preference in selection of the recipient(s) will be given to first-generation college students who have attended and graduated from Marjorie Williams Academy at the Crossnore School & Children’s Home and are recommended by the Principal of that institution.
Second preference in selection of the recipient(s) will be given to first-generation college students whose county of residence is in or west of the counties of Alleghany, Wilkes, Alexander, Catawba, Lincoln and Gaston in North Carolina.
Third preference in selection will be given to students whose state of residence is North Carolina.

The scholarship will be awarded for one academic year and may be renewed for any student to whom it is awarded, but not for more than two academic years following the year in which it is first awarded to that student.
