Jimmy Smith/Bill Paul Endowment for Mathematics Education

Proceeds from this endowment are directed to the support of programs at Appalachian State University designed to provide scholarship support for pre-service or in-service secondary mathematics teachers.

Preference in the selection of scholarship recipients shall accrue to Mathematical Sciences Graduate Students pursuing the Secondary Concentration. If there are no eligible applicants, preference in the selection of scholarship recipients shall accrue to Senior undergraduate Mathematical Sciences students admitted into the Secondary Teaching Concentration of the Accelerated Master’s Program. If no acceptable priority candidates are found, proceeds from this endowment may be awarded to rising senior undergraduate students who are scheduled to student teach in the second semester of their senior year. Scholarship selections will be determined by the Department of Mathematical Sciences Scholarship committee upon recommendation of the Mathematical Sciences Education faculty. Administration of this endowment shall be the responsibility of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, in coordination with the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
